<description>An address of Belarus citizens of Polish ethnicity to the President, marshals of the Sejm and Senate, Prime Minister of Poland

We, Belarus citizens of Polish ethnicity, appeal to you due to the ongoing campaign, which misinforms the Polish public and the international community about the status of the ethnic Poles that live in Belarus.

<title>On the Polish minority in the Republic of Belarus</title>
		<link>http://www.estonia.belembassy.org/eng/news/~news__m12=66340</link>
<description>According to the last population census (1999) the Polish minority in Belarus counts 396 thousand people (about 4 percent of country&#039;s population). A significant part of ethnic Poles live in the territory of Grodno region (294 thousand people, i.e. about 23 percent of population of the region).

Representatives of the Polish minority in Belarus are widely represented in the state authorities of Belarus, including the Parliament. In Grodno region deputies of the Polish nationality constitute 13 percent of the regional Soviet, 18 percent – in city and district Soviets, and 23 percent – in rural Soviets. The Poles make up 17 percent of heads of industrial and 23 percent of agricultural enterprises. Among them are rectors of universities, renowned scientists and artists, businessmen and doctors.

<title>Article by Polish historian and publicist Jan Engelgard “Only Boris remains…”</title>
		<link>http://www.estonia.belembassy.org/eng/news/~news__m12=66339</link>
<description>The conflict in Belarus, artificially cultivated by a small group of Angelika Boris (fallaciously qualified by the media as the “Polish minority”), is a convenient opportunity for the President of Poland and “Law and Order” Party, as well as for the Prime-Minister, to recover from losses sustained in Ukraine. After several years of silence and indulgence towards anti-Polish invectives from the side of the administration of President Viktor Yushchenko, same as towards the policy of countering polonisation in Lithuania, the camp of President Lech Katchinsky has swung its battle axe high in an attempt to smooth out the unpleasant impression. The current ardour and radicalism appear phoney and hypocritical. The statements of the President’s confidants, who compete in extreme ideas on finding a solution to the present situation, evoke pathetic feelings. These ideas discredit those who express them, but, what is even worse, the opinions of representatives of other political forces appearing in the media are not more reasonable. What strikes most is complete ignorance with regard to the realities of life of the Poles in Belarus and disgusting servility towards the media, which almost a 100 percent play up to Angelica. The lead, obviously, belongs to “Gazeta Wyborcza”, while in behind this tomfoolery trails, pitifully, even “Nasz Dziennik”, even though as a Catholic newspaper it should be more objective.</description>
